Archaeological sites are exposed to a variety of threats worldwide related to both human activities and natural hazards. Even before the outbreak of COVID-19, most of the archaeological sites in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region were at risk, and lacked sufficient funding. The coronavirus has laid another burden on the archaeological field, and restricted, stopped, or even reversed previous restoration and support efforts in war-torn societies. Archaeological sites have been directly affected by the global pandemic and will continue to experience extreme disruption.
